There are no hotels in River Run so River Run condos are your only option if you want to stay within walking distance of the gondola.
The last day of skiing for Keystone's 2008 season is Sunday April 13. However, Arapahoe Basin ski area is usually open until late June and is located just 6 miles east on Highway 6. River Run is the closest lodging for Arapahoe Basin which offers the longest ski season of any ski area in Colorado. Expect bargain rental rates in April and May.
The summer season kicks off Memorial weekend, May 23-26. Very reasonable condo rental rates can be found during the summer. At the same time, there are many summer activities in the mountains with many beautiful sunny days and cool nights. The fourth of July falls on a Friday this year which produces a long three day weekend. The three day Labor Day weekend is Friday August 29 to Monday September 1st. Fall is a beautiful time of year when aspen trees turn brilliant colors and condo rental rates are low.
The River Run ski season usually opens in early November with the exact date dependent upon early snowfall. The new River Run Gondola is to be ready for the 2008-09 ski season. This eight passenger lift will more than double the uphill capacity of the old one. This should go a long way to greatly reducing lift lines. The new base loading will be relocated to the Hunki Dori parking lot in River Run Village making the walk to the lift shorter.
Thanksgiving is Thursday November 27 which makes for the first four day ski weekend of the season. Condos have full kitchens so turkey dinner is doable in the mountains.
The holiday season begins the weekend before Christmas, Friday December 19th. Christmas and New Years fall on a Thursday this year. The peak holiday season will be from Friday December 26 to Sunday January 4th. This is one of the most popular times of year. Expect all Keystone condos and hotels to be full, so book early.
Except for the three day Martin Luther King weekend (January 17-19), rental prices are seasonally low in January. Expect reasonable prices and good skiing. Crowds are low so skiing is uncrowded and lift lines short or non- existant. February snows produce some great powder skiing. The three day Presidents holiday begins Friday February 13 and ends Monday the 16th. Three day weekends are very popular so be sure to reserve your River Run condo early.
March is one of the heaviest snow months of the year. It also brings great spring skiing. This very popular month has great snow and spring break for schools. Be sure to book spring break well in advance as every hotel and condo in Keystone is expected to be booked up far in advance.
The ski season ends in mid-April. April brings bargain spring skiing rental rates and a last chance to hit the slopes at Keystone. Arapaho Basin, located 6 miles east is usually open into late June.
